Salvador Cabanas, Paraguayian Soccer Star, Shot in the Head

Attention, Brett Favre: there's another famous sports figure that had a much worse Sunday night than you.

Salvador Cabanas, a soccer star in his native Paraguay that plays for CF America Mexico, was shot in the heat during a bar fight in Mexico City. He's battling for his life in intensive care.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident, as reports indicate an attempted robbery was underway when Cabanas intervened.

The forward, who has 18 goals in 24 matches this season, had been in the news recently for on-field reasons: there were rumors that English Premiere Club Sunderland was interested in acquiring him. Said team manager, Steve Bruce:

"Cabanas is a fantastic player, whether it's possible, I'm not quite sure. He's somebody who would be of interest, but I'm sure if he became available, there'd be lots more interest, too."

Sadly, Cabanas now has other things to worry about. We wish him a speedy recovery.
