Last year, when the fabled Black Lips/Wavves beef was still raging, Black Lips member Jared Swilley followed up an inter-band bar brawl in Brooklyn by giving an interview to Buddyhead in which he used the word "faggot" four times in reference to Wavves frontman Nathan Williams. The feud between the two bands has since died down, and last week, Zack Rosen from the website the New Gay interviewed Swilley about it at the Washington, D.C. club the Black Cat.
The interview touches on the Black Lips' homoerotic onstage antics, including but not limited to their frequent nudity and makeout sessions. More importantly, Swilley apologizes for using the word "faggot." To hear Swilley tell it, he was drunk and angry and the word is "something that comes to you naturally as such a part of our nomenclature, just when you're pissed at someone or you don't like somebody." He also insists that he "wasn't using it in a sexually derogatory kind of way." He also cites "South Park". And then he makes out with Rosen. More apologies should end this way.
