'The Hurt Locker' is up for nine Oscar awards including Best Picture. Brooklyn resident Anthony Mackie plays 'Sgt. JT Sanbron' in the film about an elite bomb squad in Iraq.
Mackie spoke with Entertainment Reporter Julie Chang about what it was like filming the war movie.
"Kathryn (Bigelow) is definitely going to win her Best Director Oscar. I'm proud to say I had a part in the film," said Mackie during a media junket for the film.
"We were shooting in Palestinian refugee camps. Once the people realized what we were doing, they embraced us. Every time they called cut, they'd clap."
'The Hurt Locker' is up against record-breaking hit Avatar for Best Picture.
"It was one of the hardest shoots I've been in. We were in 120 degree heat. We were there during Ramadan.. It was rough."
